Learn a trade for a rainy day

Back from Patmos, and ready to face new adventures and challenge Fellas!

Goooooood Morning Fellas.
How are you?
I really really miss you. But to play my new role of father it's very challenging, and also instructional for me.
And what else!?
Yeah, you know, so much has happened..
My first holiday with Chiara and Violante.
And damn, the new DesmoDue: a low mileage Hypermotard 1100 EVO SP.
And my new work as a guide in Misano World Circuit.
And no articles for a month. A very long period.
I'm so sorry.

A present for my faults Fellas.
"Every paper that you read, says tomorrow is your lucky day. Well here's your lucky day. It really really could happen.
Yes."
So he sang Demon Albram.
And with these lyrics in my head, I lost my mind in Greece.
Not my body, it is always where I decide to leave it. But I lost myself, my mind in Patmos and after few days I was back to the point.
It's not so difficult. I swear. And it's easier after reading "The Star Rover".
But this is not the point.
The point concerns the analogies and difference bout bike perception.
Compared to who?
Between Patmos and my country, Romagna.
First of all, the passion for the two wheels transcends the geography.
In Greece, they use to say "Italiani Greci, mia faza mia raza", that sounds like one face, one race. For the many affinities between these great cultures.
We got a mutual love for riding. In its pure form, without frills. In spectacular streets and breathless landscapes.

A common hobby that gratifies us. In Italy we love expensive bikes, sometimes useless for real needs. We use to show our bikes for the pleasure to be seen... Rockets ground-to-ground impossible to make full use, but damn, so exotic.
But here in Patmos, life is not all puppies and rainbows. Yeah, it's true that for four months here you can live in a dream: Meltemi cuddle tourists; ol' Mehari and Mini Moke along this small island.

Skala, Kampos, Chora, the hidden beaches, the goats, the yacht.
Opulence and decadence life for foreigners.
Hard work and a smile for the residents.
Their motorbikes reflect their attitude, their behaviors. Their nature.
Built to last. If one day you will decide to visit this great island, you will lose yourself into the sea, in nature, in the food, in wine. And once reached the oblivion, take carefully look at the bikes.
You will recognize the beauty in each one.
Below a shortlist of my Greek meeting and greeting. Everyone is special, for what they do and how.

And along these streets, there's To Agnanti.
A restaurant with a view, like this:
(without Chiara and me, of course)

Yes, in the middle of  Kampos beach, two steps closer to the sea.
And you will have the possibility to meet Dimitri, the boss of To Agnanti.
And his faithful bike, a Yamaha TW 200, equipped for the fast delivery of fresh fish, food, and beverage.
The man who looks far along the sea, the translation of Agnanti.

Ianis, or, as we use to call him, Giovannone.
Do you remember Figaro in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia"? Yes? Figaro, I'm here! Son qua!
The Factotum, right! Giovannone plays masterly this role. Cause it's possible to see Ianis repainting the street lines, or curing tamarisk trees. Or also peeling potatoes and chopping onions in a restaurant.
His bike? A trike, a factotum motorcycle like him! To face all odds.

Andrea: an Aussie in Greece. Owner of Kampos Beach Watersports
He drove a huge USA pick-up, loves water sports, extreme water sports.  And, unlike the other "kids", he rides a rocket ground-to-ground. A K5 Suzuki GSXR 1000.
No track no elaboration. Yes Sir, for sure.
The other one is a streetfighter, closed in his garage, because she got a bad temper...

Giorgos, owner of Faros Motor Rent. In front of the harbor of Skala.
Here you can always find a scooter to visit the island, at a good price. But is what's hidden inside the shop that deserves attention.

He also uses to store a lot of Vespa, old Vespa. The owners? His foreigner friends, that use to ride along Patmos with their ol' but gold icon.

All of them learned a craft, a trade. And they will pursue on their way. Doing what comes better. On a motorcycle.

In every corner of the streets, it's possible to find vintage bikes.
Built to last, and the resident, born to resist.

To face the χειμώνας, the winter.
And after 4/5 months of summertime, the cold weather, as every year arrives. Bringing news, rains, and good proposal for the future.
Do you remember the Aesopian tale of the cricket and the ant?
Well, in Patmos they use to say: "Tilefono, Sigarakia, Jeep, oki dulià... Octobrio, diskolo..."

Life seems to go slow. But days flew away and after a while, you give importance to the Time.
