MANTRA BIMOTA : WHEN TIMELESS DESIGN SERVES THE MECHANIC

Goodmorning Goodmorning my dear Goodfellas!

How are you?
How did you spend you spent your last week? all good?
I hope so!

I landed yesterday in Italy again from my oblivion, Patmos, time to relax and recharge all my batteries to face a new year of work, duty, and satisfaction!
Well, "Ehy you, talk about Moto, what da hell!
Ok, ok.
Don't worry, I will!
But first, you have to know that I met a lot of Motofanatic friends there!
And it's a pity that there are no SBK or Motogp race there.
Here two example of  amazing bikes I saw there:

Not bad eh..?!

By the way, back on Bimota and why I love this brand so much.
You have to know, as I wrote in one of my posts , that Bimota factory was born in my same land, dead, raised and almost dead, like a coma, again.
But thanks Paolo Girotti she is living a new life reborn from her roots.
The BIMOTA CLASSIC PARTS it's real and alive! And if you come in Itlay you have to visit.
Bimota it's also very special for her design. So exotic, so brave and sometimes provocative!
Bimota signed for over 40 years the revolutionary design applied at mechanic developments.
Paolo will tell you everything about it!
But in this post, I will explain which Bimota impressed my mind and why.
Only street legal production, I mean.
In the last post of my series about Bimota Classic Parts and Bimota, I will face the agonistic History of Bimota, and I need time to make a good work.
As I told you before there is a Key to read what happened in Bimota.
And this key has an owner:
Massimo Tamburini, that before to be a Legend forever, said:
DESIGN ALWAYS FALLOW MECHANIC.

Designers always serve engineers!
If happened the opposite could be very hard for a mechanic engineer work on a good and performing bike.
The style could pass, but Icons rest Icons, with a timeless and unique imprinting.
Avantgarde on Technological solutions, extra special cares on CNC parts, noble alloys and materials, research and developments and a high level of passion.

All of these ingredients are the standards of Bimota.
But for the rest of the world, this is a sort of earthquake!
A breakage vision, or a breakage with the present.
Every Bimota stands alone in a timeless space, in an ageless state.
Enterprising construction choices.
Today it's not the same.
We got motorcycles that appear futuristic.
But with a huge compromise:
To Sacrifice mechanic on the designers' altar.

90's.
Creativity boom in every field!
After the 80's with the two stroke and turbo engine, a powerful research and experimentations era, in the 90's we saw a real innovation in every sector of motorcycles' world.
The thirst for power has no limits, and this aspect will be born again in the last years of 90's till today.
Well, stylistic buzz.
And the first example I'll show you is the Monster, designed by Galluzzi.

Miguel Galluzzi made the grade: stylistic renovation of a naked bike.
Now the Monster is THE naked par excellence.
M900.

A real beast, a monster for his beastly torque and high handling.
And before 1993 we used naked for dirty searching...
Groundbreaking.
Like what Bimota will be made in the same year.

I have to tell you why I talked about Ducati and Monster.
Because sometimes there is a tiny string that connects a lot of things.
And starts like this:
/
The best partnership between Bimota and other brands' engine for me it's with the desmo.
/
And as Ing.Fabio Taglioni used to say:
"How to recognize the Desmo? The operating noise is the one that goes in resonance with the heart. It is difficult to distinguish it for those us who can't understand."
/
A "mantra" (/ˈmæntrəˈmɑːn-, ˈmʌn-/ (Sanskrit: मंत्र);[2]) is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word or phonemes, or group of words in Sanskrit believed by practitioners to have psychological and spiritual powers.
Funny, isn't it?
Cause here to you the :
BIMOTA MANTRA

The heart is pure.
An M900 desmo engine with a great frame, a great design, and amazing setting suspension.
In the same year of Galluzzi's Monster production.
This a real and all brand new roadster bike.
Strange and futuristic like no other Bimota before, like no other bike before.
Ripped in half the critics. Hated or loved like 50cent sang years ago.
Here the new oval tubular steel frame and inside his noble heart:

904cc

With 4 pipes exhaust ready to announce you to all.

Lakic, the crazy designer made a timeless icon.
Maybe not the fairest of them all. But you will always turn your head to see her B side, I swear!
And I have to say "HEY NUNZIO THANK YOU!", cause he sent me the pics of his baby.
Well preserved Mantra, Ommm.
86 hp at 7000rpm with a 9.2 Kgm at (!!!) 5700rpm.
904 cc desmo engine.
2 Mikuni carburetors 38.
172kg (379lb) (!!!!) dry weight.
1993. That's all folks.

If the Mantra was a brand new bike outside the sportbike made in Rimini, with the Tesi, well, we have to give the honorary degree to Ing.Pierluigi Marconi for this example of human genius applied to a machine.
Ladies and gentleman:

BIMOTA TESI

My look turn at the past, what Bimota's done in the present it's obvious, made a lot of magnificent bikes, like DB6 Delirio,

or the DB5S.
But she is what admire.
Every day.
I'm proud to present you this sexy bomb:

Ing.Marconi was the father of the Tesi, a simply concentrate of sport technologies applied to motorcycles.
Born as a prototype, with a Japanese heart, she grew up and adopted the desmo solution (remember the tiny string..!?).
And Bimota started to sell this breathless art of work.

Without traditional forks at the front tire, Tesi uses an unedited shock absorber system that gives an unknown stability and balance instead of the bike made in the same years. Turns like a scalpel, no down force on the front tire, and runs like a train.

A timeless design or that could come from days of future past, it's right framework of this masterpiece.
As I said, the first engine was a VFR400 V4. A good engine, but not the right engine for that Omega frame.
Tesi 1D prototype VFR400 V4

Desmo is the answer.
As always. A perfect wedding.
Started all with Desmoquattro with the 851 desmo and later with the Tesi2D Desmodue equipped.

Double Omega frame, Marconi will develop this fascinating system made by Belgian engineer Difazio for his graduation.
Groundbreaking news for that old but gold time.
 80's/90's
Innovation, Renovation.
These were the standards.
This is the only aim.
But never forget our roots.
We have to remember our roots.
To improve ourselves.
Thaks as always to Paolo Girotti for the very rare pics.
Contact Paolo here if interested in some parts, Bimota Bikes, or simply to talk about Bimota.
